Boat Classes

In Tasmania, we run six classes of boats.

Juniors

Junior drivers can start racing a 9.9HP boat from the age of 12 and as they get older, they can move to a 15HP engine.  The boats are generally about 10' in length and can be either a Mono, Wing or Tunnel type hull. Although the drivers are young and the boats are small, this doesn't mean this class is tame by any means.

1000cc

The 1000cc class is made up of Mono and Tunnel hulls with an engine capacity that must not exceed 1000cc. Although the engine size is restricted, these boats can still manage speeds up to about 70MPH (112KPH). If your too old to start in the Juniors, then this is the class for you to start with.

Pro Stock

The Pro Stock has only just recently been started with the idea that many people have Ski Boats and want to get out and have some fun. With this class, you can quite easily buy a Ski Boat, remove the Ski Pole and just about be ready to race. While there are restrictions on the modifications that you can do to your boat, there aren't restrictions on the ammount of fun that you can have.

A Grade

This is the class where things start getting serious. The commmon boat to race in this class is an Inboard 366ci (6.0Lt) Small Block V8 with either a carburetted or injection fuel system. The other common type of boat to see in this class is a 2.0Lt Tunnel boat like an F1 boat. Between the boats, there is always some great action and close racing.

Unlimited Unblown

Unlimited Unblown is for boats whos engines are bigger than the 366ci restriction for inboards and 2.0Lt for outboards in the A Grade class. About the only restriction you do have with the V8 engines is that it can't be SuperCharged and the outboards can't run injection. Aside from the restrictions, these boats get it on and tear up the water like there is no tomorrow.

Unlimited

This is the class you race in if you like tearing up $100 notes by the handfull. SuperCharged Big Block V8's, Injected F1 Outboards, Twin rig Outboards, it doesn't matter which way you look at it, these things can make some noise and move through the water at phenomenal speeds.
